For the Love of Cats: A Lesson on Love

Meet Orion and Cassiopeia. My son and I met them as “Jack and Jill” at the Oakland Animal Services Center in Oakland, CA. We had been looking to adopt a cat or kittens into our family for a while. I looked at these two and knew they belonged in our family.

We worked on their names for about a week, we wanted matching names. We decided on Orion and Cassiopeia as they were our Star Babies. Orion the “Hunter” and Cassiopeia, who is a true “Queen.”

My son and I began having housing challenges in March of 2017, due to a drastic shift in my income. We’ve had to move and was able to have our kitty babies with us until this Summer. After 1 foster situation, we discovered a woman who loved our furry friends and wanted to keep them with her until we found our new home. She accepted our cats without hesitation. Shortly thereafter a relative became angry with her and without giving the entire story, told her the cats had to go.

Devastated, we both looked for foster situations for a couple weeks and finally put them into cat boarding.

I am a small business owner. I love my nutrition business and my tea company. I expected massive growth over the Holidays and expected to be able to pay for their boarding. I have also been looking for an outside job. Just in case, I decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign.

Three weeks have passed and my business projections were different than expected, I just had an interview, and now it’s time to move the cats from the pet hotel. Thanks to Milo Foundation in Pt. Richmond, we have a foster family. I have yet to come up with all the funds to release them however.

Being an entrepreneur at heart, I looked into creative ways to fund this for us. I am a writer at heart so I decided to document our story. “The Adventures of Orion and Cassiopeia” is an adventure in unconditional love. Love for my son who has a deep love for our cats, and my own deep love for our two furry relatives who crawled their way into my heart.

I am now publishing our story, just working out a few details. If you are interested in purchasing a copy, we have officially launched pre-sales. Our Etsy link for the book introduction is The Adventures of Orion and Cassiopeia.
